The Paso Robles Police Department traffic program is supervised by a  Sergeant and has assigned two full-time Traffic Officers. The goal of the Traffic Program is to assist in the safe, smooth flow of traffic within our city.

The Traffic Officers utilize a Community Oriented Policing - Problem Solving approach to traffic issues within the community. Traffic issues are addressed with an Education-Engineering-Enforcement emphasis.

  • Investigation of Traffic Collisions
  • Enforcement of traffic laws
  • DUI enforcement
  • Calls for service
  • Parking issues
  • Special events
  • Citizen complaints of traffic concerns (Report a Problem)

Community Outreach

Our traffic officers participate in numerous community events to teach safety. These include:

  • Bicycle Rodeos
  • Driver Education Courses at Paso Robles High School
  • Driver Safety course at the Senior Center
  • Child car-seat check-up / training events Presentations at community events

The Paso Robles Police Department has recently been awarded several special grants from the California Office of Traffic Safety. These grants have funded programs to improve safety on our roadways through education and enforcement:

  • DUI Enforcement / Education designed to combat DUI and underage drinking.
  • Seat Belt Enforcement (Click it or Ticket campaign)
  • DUI Checkpoint grant

The Paso Robles Police Department Traffic Program has been recognized as the #1 program in the State of California for similar sized agencies for the last two years in a row. Paso Robles was recognized for seat belt enforcement, speed enforcement and DUI enforcement. These efforts combined with education and engineering have had a positive affect on traffic safety.

Traffic Safety Tips

  • Don't drink and drive. Use a designated driver if you are away from home and drinking.
  • Wear your seat belt. A properly worn seat belt will lesson the severity of injury if you are involved in a collision.
  • Obey speed limits. Almost half of the injury collisions in Paso Robles occur as the result of one or both drivers, driving at an unsafe speed.
  • Leave early, don't be rushed. Drivers who are rushed, or running late often times drive too fast!
