North County Transportation Center
The City has a combined Proposition 1B and Federal Stimulus
Grant to construct a standalone restroom at the Transportation
Center. Vitetta Architects are the designers, and JTS
Construction is the contractor. Work is complete
Ornamental Lights Retrofit
The City has acquired a Federal Stimulus Grant from the
California Energy Commission to retrofit approximately 300
downtown ornamental light fixtures. Converting the existing
lamps will provide approximately $1700 per month savings to the
City's electrical costs. Project is out to bid with bid opening
scheduled for September 23, 2010.
Parking Lot Remediation (Sulphur Springs)
After working with the Federal Emergency Management Agency
(FEMA) to insure that the City would be reimbursed for repair of
the City Hall parking lot damaged in the 2003 San Simeon
Earthquake, FEMA has given its approval and on February 16, 2010
the City awarded the repair and construction contract to a local
firm, MGE Underground. Construction work will occur along
10th Street and Riverside Avenue, and MGE will be boring under
the railroad at 10th Street and under Highway 101. The pipe will
terminate at the Salinas River at 11th Street east of Paso
Robles Street. Work is underway and should be completed by the
end of the year. Forty-eight parking spaces will be restored
once the parking lot is repaired.
Salinas River Corridor Plan
The City received a technical assistance grant from the National
Park Services to assist staff in preparing a Master Corridor Plan
and create a vision in and around the Salinas River to enhance its
open space and recreational trail capabilities.

completed its environmental phase and is now in final design. It
will be advertised for bids in the Fall of 2011.
Train Station Platform Tile Repairs
The City, in partnership with the San Luis Obispo Council of
Governments (SLOCOG) and Amtrak, has obtained State and Federal
grants to repair deteriorating tiles at the train station
platform area. Contract administration will be provided by
Amtrak staff. Work is expected to begin in late August 2010 and
completed by the end of the year.
