The Nomination Period for candidates is Monday, July 14, 2008 to Friday, August 8, 2008. The filing period extends to Wednesday, August 13, 2008 if an incumbent fails to submit nomination papers or fails to qualify as a candidate.

Pre-requisites for running for office are that a Candidate must live with the City Limits of Paso Robles and be a registered voter of the City. A candidate should be familiar with filing requirements pursuant to the Fair Political Practices Commission. The FPPC regulates campaign financing and spending.
