PROJECTS IN PROGRESS
All of the following projects were or are in progress in the year 2008:
Community Development
Sidewalks and Related Improvements in Riverside Avenue and 24th Streets - $408,400 (2008 and 2009 CDBG Funds) will be used to install sidewalks and related improvements (curbs, gutters, concrete drive approaches, street lights, street trees, and storm drains) within the public rights-of-way along the frontage of Paso Robles Event Center's parking lot.
LED-Lighted Crosswalk - $35,000 (2007 CDBG Funds) are to be used install an LED-lighted crosswalk at the intersection of Spring and 17th Streets, near a public school.
First 5 Commission - $58,000 for demolition of an existing abandoned building and site preparation for a proposed Early Childhood and Family Resource Center on the northwest corner of Spring and 36th Streets.
Transitional Food and Shelter’s Motel Voucher and Apartment Program - $19,650 (2009 CDBG Funds) will be used to provide motel vouchers for the homeless. In 2008, $21,373 was granted for this program.
Economic Opportunity Commission’s Senior Health Screening Program - $1,900 (2009 CDBG Funds) will be used to provide health services to low-income seniors. In 2008, $2,500 was granted for this program.
Economic Opportunity Commission’s Teen Academic Parenting Program - $2,300 (2009 CDBG Funds) will be used to provide counseling and childcare services to pregnant teens, teen-aged parents and their children. In 2008, $2,500 was granted for this program.
The Literacy Council’s Literacy Program - $1,900 (2009 CDBG Funds) will be used to help operate a countywide program to provide English Language classes to low-income persons. In 2008, $2,000 was granted for this program.
Big Brothers/Big Sisters Mentoring Program - $1,900 (2009 CDBG Funds) will be used to help operate a countywide program to provide adult mentors for low-income “at-risk” children. In 2008, $2,000 was granted for this program.
El Camino Homeless Organization - $4,750 (2009 CDBG Funds) will be used to help operate a homeless shelter at certain churches in Atascadero along with the help of covering costs of providing motel vouchers for homeless that meet certain criteria. In 2008, $5,000 was granted for this program.
Homeless Ministry at Second Baptist Church - $11,106 (2007 CDBG Funds) was granted for operating expenses for a homeless ministry program that provides meals, showers, and clothing for the homeless.
211 SLO Hotline - $2,000 (2008 CDBG Funds) will be used to contribute a share of costs to operate their 24 hour crisis intervention, support, and information & referral service hotline.
Court-Appointed Special Advocates - $1,000 (2008 CDBG Funds) will be used to contribute a share of operating costs for a county-wide program to provide special advocates for teen-aged foster children.
Assistance League of San Luis Obispo County - $2,000 (2008 CDBG Funds) will be used to help fund the Operation School Bell, which provides needy County grammar school children with new school clothing and supplies.
Lifestyles Recovery Center - $4,750 (2009 CDBG Funds) will be used for operating expenses for drug and alcohol counseling services for low income persons and for a volunteer training program.
Senior Nutrition Program of San Luis Obispo County - $1,900 (2009 CDBG Funds) will be used to help operate a county-wide program to provide hot meals for seniors.
Peoples’ Self-Help Housing Corp. - $1,900 (2009 CDBG Funds) will be used to help operate a county-wide program to provide workshops and one-on-one counseling on foreclosure avoidance and first-time homebuyer training to low income persons.
