SOUTH OF DOWNTOWN PASO ROBLES
URBAN DESIGN CONCEPT
Rethinking Downtown – The Area South of the City Park
Cal Poly Planning students presented their urban design proposals for Paso Robles Downtown at a special City Council / Planning Commission meeting on Wednesday June 2, 2004. Enrolled in the City and Regional Planning Department’s second year urban design studio, these students have been studying the existing constraints and development opportunities of the ten-block area south of the City Park, between Spring and Pine Street. The students developed a general design concept which provides for a mix of office, retail, recreational, and residential uses. The redesigned area would also accommodate the construction of a new City Hall, a community theatre, a community youth centre, and a new park with sports fields. As the plan assumes higher densities, it provides for two parking structures that would be “enveloped” by mixed uses, and solutions for a pedestrian-friendly environment including traffic calming, wider sidewalks, and streetscape beautification.
Below are links to documents used in the students presentation of their concept.
