LIBRARY SUPPORT
Friends of the Library
Since 1978, Friends of the Library has provided additional financial support for Library programs, materials, and activities. The group collects donations of book and magazines throughout the year, which are then either added to the Library’s permanent collections or sold in the Friends store or at the semi-annual book sale. Since the opening of the new Library building in 1995, the Friends of the Library has operated the small gift shop located just off the lobby. The shop has become a popular shopping destination for visitors and residents alike, offering delightful goods that enhance learning and creative play. Used books and magazines are also sold there. Together with the book sales, Friends of the Library generates over $20,000 each year for Library programs and materials.
Did you know that you can support our public library with an annual membership of only $10 per year? Download Membership Pamphlet and Application
Memberships are renewable in January and entitle you to:
•A 10% discount on new merchandise in the Store (excluding holiday sales)
•
An invitation to a special pre-sale of Friends books before they go on sale to the general public (in April and October of your membership year).
The Friends of the Library appreciate your donations, which are either added to the library’s collection or are used to generate considerable funds towards the purchase of new books, library materials, programs or services. We accept donations (limited to two bags of books at a time) during business hours and ask that they be brought into the library or the Friends Store, located in the foyer of the library building. Please contact the library (237-3870) or Friends (237-3908) to arrange either pick-up or delivery of large donations. Please do not leave donations in the delivery area without making previous arrangements.
Books must be in good condition, and of current interest. Our experience tells us that the following items are not saleable items, so we cannot accept them:
- Readers Digest or other condensed books
- Books that are worn, torn, dirty, mildewed or otherwise in poor condition
- Law books, medical and professional reference books more than two years old
Textbooks are not accepted regardless of how new.
Magazines must be in good physical condition, and of current interest. We gladly accept weekly magazines up to three weeks old, and monthly magazines up to two years old. National Geographic magazines are kept in the childrens library and are given away (no charge). As space is limited, all National Geographic donations must have prior approval by the Childrens Librarian before being accepted.
