CITIZENS POLICE ACADEMY
January 31 - April 3, 2008
Every Thursday:
6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and one Saturday, TBA,
8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The Paso Robles Police Departments Citizens Policy Academy will provide community members with an inside look at the Police Department and all facets of law enforcement. During the ten (10) week academy, students will be introduced to the Police Departments operations, and participate in a firearms safety course. Other topics include: law enforcement ethics, criminal law, investigations, patrol procedures, communications, crime prevention, drug enforcement and drug education. As part of the curriculum, students will be scheduled to ride along with a Police Officer, and to see the Departments Specialized Units at work.
Purpose
The academy is designed to give citizens an overview of the Police Departments policies and procedures. The curriculum and teaching methods are similar to the traditional law enforcement academy but weekly sessions are NOT designed to make the participant a law enforcement officer.
Instructors
Police executive and veteran Officers teach academy classes. Participants will have the opportunity to meet with the Chief of Police and staff members. They are encouraged to ask questions, and to express their concerns to Department employees. The Paso Robles Police Department hopes there will be a greater awareness and understanding of law enforcements role in the community through the education provided by the Citizens Police Academy.
Participant Requirements
Potential candidates for the Citizens Police Academy must meet the following criteria:
- Live or work in Paso Robles and/or surrounding area
