2008 EXPLORER COMPETITION

The Ninth Annual Central Coast Law Enforcement Explorer Competition will be held at the Paso Robles Event Center (Mid State Fairgrounds) located in Paso Robles, North of San Luis Obispo on September 26 - 28, 2008. The Event Center is conveniently located just off Highway 46 East and US 101 (Please refer to attached directions), making for easy access from any direction.

OVERVIEW:
The Central Coast Law Enforcement Competition started in the year 2000 with approximately 18 Law Enforcement agencies participating in daytime events. Over the years it has grown to approximately 42 participating agencies and over 350 Law Enforcement Explorers. The events now carry over to night time scenario’s, and a full two days of exciting yet demanding competition. What originally took two coordinators, now takes a Board of Directors containing 11 members and almost a hundred volunteers. The event has been successful and now awards up to 10 college scholarships to qualified applicants and participants of the competition.
The competition is designed to be very demanding on the physical
and mental capabilities of each Explorer. Events are designed to
test the strengths and limitations of a person's intelligence,
personality, demeanor and physical abilities, as well as
dedication and conviction to the Explorer Program.
Explorers are
given the opportunity to test their skills in real life
situations including Felony Stops, DUI Stops, Vehicle Searches,
Building Searches, and a Domestic Violence situation, just to
name a few. These events will be held both in daylight and night
time scenarios. The competition will test the Explorers physical
abilities and teamwork through obstacle courses, relay races,
and a tug of war. Mental abilities are tested through a variety
of events including a Medical Scenario, a Law Enforcement Entry
Level Written Exam and an Oral Board Panel.
Up to 10 scholarships will be awarded to successful applicants and competition participants. Scholarship interviews will be conducted of the top ten qualifiers to determine who and in what order the scholarships will be awarded.
Trophies are awarded for 1st through 5th place in each event with 1st through 5th place for overall scores. Participants are encouraged to participate in every event as points are earned for each event toward the overall trophies.
Fees:
The cost of this 3 day event is $115.00 per Explorer and $75.00 per Advisor. Each post must have at least one paid advisor in attendance. Each entry fee includes 1 complementary event shirt, 1 ticket for the Friday night dinner (beverage included), 1 ticket for the Saturday night Tri-Tip or Chicken BBQ (beverage included) and the costume dance and social to follow. (Awards will be given out for costumes, i.e. best dressed, most unusual, scariest, etc...) Additional dinners for Friday and Saturday nights can be purchased in advance.
