FISHING DERBY
Picture Gallery
This year’s Fishing Derby, held on Saturday, April 12, was a
wonderful, fun-filled morning for the whole family.
Kids, ages
5 – 15, gathered at Barney Schwartz Park in the hopes of
catching a trout or a bass. Five fishing poles were awarded to
the young fishermen catching the biggest fish. An additional 18
raffle prizes were given throughout the competition. Even
though not everyone caught a fish, the weather was beautiful and
kids learned how to cast, bait a worm (ugh!) and practice
patience. The event was co-sponsored by the Library and
Recreation Services Department, the Fire Department, the Police
Department, and the Department of Fish and Game. Barney
Schwartz Task Force Volunteers were also on hand helping kids
with bait, fishing poles, and weighing the fish. The
cooperative support of all of these departments made this event
a very positive one for the kids, especially for those who were
new to the sport of fishing.
