1. F.Y.I. For Your Information

Senior Peer Counseling
Thursday, May 8, 2008  at 11:00 am.
We will have a presentation on this free service provided by caring people, all age 55 or older to anyone in San Luis Obispo County who is age 60 or older. These are trained volunteers who will come to your home for one hour a week to just be with you and support you as you work out whatever concerns you might have. Concerns such as: Changes in your life ~ Health problems ~ Caregiver issues ~ Losses ~ Family conflicts.

Lee Eby was raised in Santa Cruz and has had the privilege of living in such beautiful places like Hawaii and our very own Central coast. When seeking time away, he has often sought to vacation in areas that are free of tourists. Lee will share with listeners his insider tips on what he believes the tour books won’t tell, and reveal humorous insights on how he learned these truths the hard way. Enjoy Lee’s personal stories and adventures on the 2nd Friday in May.

3. Classic Movie

A Star Is BornA Star Is Born
Friday, May 16, 2008 at 1:00 pm.

A musical tale of a doomed Hollywood couple. Judy Garland plays a young singer named Esther, who saves Norman Maine ( James Mason ), a famous star, from making a fool of himself onstage. Maine is an alcoholic whose career is on the wane but who manages, nonetheless, to acknowledge Esther’s talent and helps her jump-start a career in Hollywood. But as her star rises and his declines, Maine’s misery grows. Music scores include Garland’s well-known songs; “The Man That Got away” and “Born In a Trunk”. The film garnered six Academy award nominations, including Best Actress and Actor for Garland and Mason.

National Older Americans Month Celebration
Friday, May 23 at Noon.

Who can resist a free slice of delicious pie with some yummy ice cream on the side, especially when served by one of our City’s friendly firefighters? Join us as we celebrate National Older American’s Month. Make a date of it by asking a friend, and ordering lunch from our Senior Nutrition Program! To make reservations for lunch, please call 238-4831. Meal donations are $2.75.

Talbot Tours Presentation
Wednesday, May 28 at 12:15 pm.

Nancy Sloan from Talbot Tours will be giving an informational presentation on exciting new trips and tours being offered for 2008/2009. This year, Talbot Tours is offering trips far and near. From the beautiful Greek Isles to exploring vintage trains, your options on a variety of trips are abundant. Start planning your get away to a destination that suits you best!

Cards & Games At The Senior CenterCards & Games

Bingo Mania
Wednesdays, 1:30 p.m.
Who can resist an afternoon of fun playing BINGO? Join us as we play 9 games. Bingo cards are $1.25 each or 5 cards for $5.  Refreshments served.  No reservations necessary.

Bunco Group
4th Thursday of the month, 12:30 – 2:30 p.m.
If you can roll dice, you can play this fun, social game. Come and be a part of the game that is growing in popularity across the United States. $2.00 per play date. Call Bonnie, 226-0323, to join this group or add your name to the substitute list.

Chess Club
Wednesdays, 6:30 - 9:00 p.m.
Chess, a game of skill, is also a miniature history of medieval times. Each chess piece represents a cross section of the medieval life with its many ceremonies, grandeur, and wars. This club meets every week, all ages are welcome. Already a chess player or want to be, call Irwin, 238-3668.

Duplicate Bridge
Thursdays, 12:30 - 4:30 p.m.
Mondays, 6:00 – 9:00 p.m.
Called "duplicate" because the same bridge hand is played multiple times, winners are determined by comparing your results with others who played the same hand. All are welcome to join us! Questions? Call Fred, 238-5062.

Mah Jongg
Tuesday’s, 1:30 – 3:30 p.m.
Mah Jongg Pieces
Rediscover what women of the 1950's recognized as a comfortable diversion and respite from life's everyday complexities. Mah Jongg, the cordial game whose clacking tiles brought countless people together around folding tables on porches and formica tables in kitchens, resoundingly clacks once again! It is fun, sociable, and relaxing. With patience and a few lessons, you can master the intricacies of Mah Jongg. Call Neeltje at 467-2536 for more information.

Pedro
1st and 3rd Tuesday, 1:00 - 4:00 p.m.
Pedro is a trick-taking card game played with four players, who are divided into two partnerships. You are invited to join the fun. Refreshments will be served. For information, call Mary, 237-1722.

Pinochle
Mondays and Thursdays, 12:30 – 5:00 p.m.
Another “trick-taking” game, Pinochle is for two or four players and played with a 48-card deck. Each hand is played in three phases consisting of: bidding, melds, and tricks. Join us after lunch and play “Paso Robles Pinochle.”

Scrabble
Tuesdays, 12:00 – 5:00 p.m.
Come join a world-wide community by playing Scrabble, an intriguing and mind-tickling game played across the world. For more information call Estella, 238-0213.

Book Discussion Group
4th Friday of the month, 9:30 - 11:00 a.m.

Fishing-
The Central Coast Casters
3rd Tuesday of the month, 6:30 p.m.
Open to men, women, and families of all ages, the club offers the opportunity to learn, make friends, gain experience, and discover new fishing locations. Monthly outings and programs will be scheduled. For more information contact either Gary Robillard, 239-4643, or Mel Stokes, 226-7676.

Java With The Guys
Thursdays, 9:00 – 10:30 a.m.
