COLLEGE 101 - ADMISSIONS WORKSHOP

Saturday, September 13
12:00 – 4:00 p.m.
Centennial Park Banquet Room
FREE!

Our 2nd Annual College 101 is again being offered to students (ages 13+) and parents wanting to learn the “how to” of preparing and getting into college. This year we are privileged to have two guest speakers:

Bill Spencer, Director of Alternative Education for the Paso Robles School District, has been in the education field for over 32 years serving as an educator, counselor, principal and mediator. Learn more.

Carol Christen, a career consultant, job search coach, and a dynamic, gifted speaker, encourages young people to celebrate the opportunities that lie ahead rather than being fearful of the future. She recently co-authored a book entitled 'What Color is Your Parachute? For Teens'. For more information please visit www.carolchristen.com

Angela Hollander, Program and Donor Services Associate for SLOCCF, will have a table set up and be on the student panel as a scholarship resource person. She is responsible for coordinating the Foundation’s scholarship programs, including community outreach, and assistance with donor services. In 2008, the Foundation awarded over $205,100 in scholarships to 81 recipients. www.sloccf.org

Informative afternoon workshops will include ACT & SAT testing, where to start and what to do in the application process, and financial aid/FAFSA/scholarships. Don’t miss this college planning opportunity sponsored by the Paso Robles Youth Commission.

Promoting Through Partnerships

High Five! The City of Paso Robles is committed to promoting mental and physical fitness. This is crucial for our children, as nationwide we are facing educational challenges and problems with obesity. We are partnering with the YMCA to make this commitment a reality. Here’s a sample of what we are doing:

  • Healthy snacks in vending machines and at YMCA’s after-school programs.
  • Activities that enhance the ability of the brain to process information - art, music, theatre, dance, language classes, games, exercise programs, and sports.
  • 45 minutes daily of active, outside games/sports in the YMCA after-school program.
  • “Raising-A-Reader” and Zoo Phonics
