24 Reasons to Visit Paso Robles

Where to Stay While You Are Here

An Exploding Wine Industry

Paso Robles is California’s fastest growing wine region. In the mid 1990s, Paso Robles was home to 35 wineries and 13,000 acres of grapes. Today, the Paso Robles appellation boasts more than 26,000 vineyard acres and more than 200 wineries, as well as an international reputation for producing some of California’s most exciting wines. Sunset Magazine recently declared Paso Robles the West Coast’s “most exciting wine region.”

Small Town Foodies

A number of chefs from the big cities have found their way to Paso Robles. From French, Indian and Thai food to innovative fusion cuisine, their establishments are flourishing amid a relatively small population—revealing that locals and visitors alike are fueling the Paso Robles “foodie” phenomenon.

Dinner shuttle service is available from any Paso Robles lodging within a 5 mile radius of the downtown core to any of the downtown restaurants or entertainment. Please call ahead for advance reservations and details- (805) 221-1685. More information about shuttle rates can be downloaded here.

Equestrians’ Delight

The Paso Robles Event Center has become an epicenter for some of the nation’s most prominent equestrian events. From the National Stock Horse Association Snaffle Bit Futurity event (the triathlon of the western horse world) to The National Reined Cow Horse Association Derby, the Hackamore Classic to the Miss Rodeo California Pageant, these events are turning the spotlight on the region’s ranching culture, as well as boosting the local economy.

A Romantic Getaway

Downtown City ParkWith its bed and breakfasts, downtown inns, diverse culinary scene and quaint town center with distinctive shopping, Paso Robles is growing in popularity as a weekend getaway. Live music, wine and food pairing dinners and events of all kinds are frequently found at area wineries, while the local spas, lakes, downtown festivals and shows at the Paso Robles Event Center offer other entertainment options.

Olive Oil Heaven

Known as “the almond capital” at the turn of the 20th century, Paso Robles has since ushered in vineyards as its top agricultural enterprise. The latest crop to flourish is the olive orchard. Olives tend to thrive in wine-friendly climates and Paso Robles is no exception. Olive oil brands such as Olea and Pasolivo are racking up awards and earning profits in the process. The annual Paso Robles Olive Festival in August showcases the growing community of local olive oil producers.

Cycling Paradise

The wide-open roads and picturesque vineyards of Paso Robles are the perfect recipe for a memorable cycling excursion. Avid cyclists will enjoy the 39-mile Vineyard Drive Loop that winds through rugged westside wine country, while others will appreciate the gentler 21-mile Star Farms Loop. Wine tasting and picnic facilities are found along most local cycling routes. Cruising around downtown is also a favorite pastime. There’s a reason why the Great Western Bicycle Rally has called Paso Robles home for 34 years. For a full sampling of local rides, visit www.greatwesternbicyclerally.com/rides.htm.
