Public Works is preparing to begin construction on the roundabout at Union Road and Golden Hill Road. Construction is projected to start December 2021 and run through August 2022.
The intersection at Golden Hill and Union Road will be closed during construction.
Ardmore Road will be realigned to create a detour that will allow motorists to access Golden Hill on either side of the closure.
All businesses in the vicinity will remain open and accessible during construction.
Click through the images below for information on the detours.
The detours will begin in December 2021
This detour will save residents 2 years of traffic disruption and $1 million in construction costs
The intersection at Golden Hill and Union will be closed from approx Dec 2021 through Aug 2022. To allow for as smooth an experience as possible, Ardmore Road will be realigned to create a detour so that residents can access either side of the closure when coming in from the east on Union, or north and south on Golden Hill. Trucks will be asked to use an alternate route to avoid Ardmore and residential neighborhoods.
Residents and those coming into town from the east can use Ardmore Road to skirt the intersection and connect to Golden Hill on either side of the construction closure.
Rather than taking Union to Golden Hill, trucks and residents coming from the center of town can use Union to River to Experimental Station to access the Lowe’s Center and businesses near the closure.
There is good news. When the roundabout project is complete, traffic flow will be considerably improved. Click the image below to see a video simulation of traffic flow when the roundabout is done.
The complete video is 7 minutes long and shows traffic flow from all points of entry into the roundabout, plus pedestrian and bike path flow.
The traffic volume shown in the video illustrates future traffic volumes when Chandler/Beechwood specific plans are fully developed. Therefore the useful life of the roundabout would last beyond 2032.
