City Employee Benefits

Benefits vary based on bargaining unit/employee group. For a detailed list of benefits, please see the applicable group memorandum of understanding.


CalPERS Pension

The City contracts with the California Public Employee’s Retirement System (CalPERS) for both full-time and applicable part-time employees. Retirement contributions vary by employee group.

Social Security

Both employees and the City contribute to Social Security. 

Deferred Compensation

A 457 deferred compensation plan is available for employees to set aside a portion of their salary on a pre-tax basis to supplement retirement. 

Health Insurance


The City provides a variety of health insurance plans through CalPERS for all full-time employees. Employees are provided a monthly contribution toward premiums based on employee group.

Dental & Vision

The City offers Delta Dental and VSP Vision insurance plans to all full-time employees. 


Group term life insurance is provided for all full-time employees. The amount of coverage varies depending on employee group.

Long Term Disability Insurance

Long-term disability insurance is available to management employees.

Employee Assistance Program

An EAP provides short-term, solution-oriented counseling to employees and their family members. Services are free, voluntary and confidential.

Flexible Spending Account

A flexible spending account (FSA) is a tax-advantaged account that allows you to use pre-tax dollars to pay for medical or dependent care expenses.

Paid Leave


Starting with 10 days per year, increasing with years of service.


14 days per year.

Sick Leave

Accrual of 12 days per year.

Administrative Leave

56 hours per year to be used or cashed out at the end of the year. (Available to exempt management employees.) 

Tuition Reimbursement

Employees are provided up to $3,000 per fiscal year toward continuing education.
