Fire Permits
General Permit Application Process
Plan reviews and permit issuance will occur through Paso Robles Fire and Emergency Services. Completed application packets may be filled out online and emailed to firemarshal@prcity.com
Application Packet
All permit applications (excluding operational permits) use the Fire Permit Application Packet (PDF). See instructions for the correct pages of the packet.
Please ensure that application is complete and submittals contain the information required below. A separate permit must be obtained for each type of system. Incomplete applications will not be processed.
Notice to Property Owner
The Notice to Property Owner (pages 5 and 6 of the application packet) should be completed only when work is to be completed by an owner-builder who is not a licensed contractor.
Underground Fire Lines

Commercial/Industrial Fire Sprinkler Systems

- Device calculation (page 9)
- Owners Information Certificate (page 8)
Commercial/Industrial Fire Sprinkler Systems may require up to 30 days for review and permit issuance.
Residential Fire Sprinkler Systems
- 1 set of sprinkler system drawings compliant with NFPA 13, Chapter 22 (2018)
- 1 set of hydraulic calculations
- Completed application (page 4)
- Completed legal declaration (page 7)
- Device calculation (page 9)
- Owners Information Certificate (page 8)
Residential Fire Sprinkler Systems may require up to 30 days for review and permit issuance.
Passive Purge Sprinkler Systems
Passive purge fire sprinkler systems serve a single toilet in addition to fire sprinklers. The toilet shall be on a remote portion of the sprinkler system or the system shall be designed as a loop so that water moves through a majority of the fire sprinkler system piping when the toilet is flushed. Passive purge system non-metallic pipe and fittings shall be designed to withstand a working pressure of not less than 130 pounds per square inch (8.9 bars) at 120 degrees (49C).
Water Pressures
Contact the Paso Robles Water Division at 805-237- 3866 to obtain high and low pressures during the design phase. Include freeze protection for all residential fire sprinkler piping. A residential sprinkler system flow test is required at time of rough inspection.
Fire Alarm Systems

Chemical Fire Suppression Systems may require up to 30 days for review and permit issuance.
