Vegetation Fire on North River Road

PASO ROBLES, CA – At approximately 17:00 hrs. on June 29, Paso Robles Fire and Emergency Services was dispatched to the area of North River Rd. for a vegetation fire.

The first fire engine arrived at scene within approximately five minutes. The initial arriving units found the fire burning in the riverbed with difficult access. The fire was in dense vegetation, wind driven, at a moderate rate of spread, with spotting observed.

Two fire engines, one squad and one Battalion Chief’s from Paso Robles responded. Under the City’s automatic and mutual aid agreements, four fire engines, two hand crews, a water tender, one Battalion Chief’s from CAL FIRE/SLO County, one engine from Camp Roberts Fire, one engine from Templeton Fire and one engine from Atascadero Fire immediately responded. A total of 62 firefighters were required to contain the fire. Additional assistance was provided by Cal Fire Air Attack, Paso Robles Public Works and the Paso Robles Police Department.

North River Road between Union Rd. and River Oaks was closed for approximately five hours due to emergency vehicles working in the roadway.

Total acreage burned was approximately 11.51 acres. Crews will continue to mop up the fire on Sunday to reach full containment. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
