Vehicle Pursuit Wanted Suspect Attempted Murder of a Peace Officer

PASO ROBLES, CA – On September 5, 2019 the Paso Robles Police Department received information that Guadalupe Herrera Lopez, 51 years old, was possibly within the City of Paso Robles. Lopez was wanted after a domestic violence incident and carjacking in Merced County and subsequently shot a Merced County Sheriff’s Deputy. Lopez was wanted for attempted murder of a peace officer, carjacking, and domestic violence. A “BLUE ALERT” was initiated by the Merced County Sheriff’s Office.
At approximately 11:10am, Paso Robles Police Officer’s located the carjacked vehicle in the area of Niblick Road and Creston Road occupied by Lopez. A high-risk traffic stop was initiated at which time Lopez fled in the vehicle. Paso Robles Police Officer’s pursued the vehicle. Lopez lead officers out of the city on Highway 46 East and through Treasure Winey. Lopez later was able to get back on to Highway 46 East and began going eastbound in speeds in excess of 120 miles per hour.  
The California Highway Patrol Air Operations Division assisted in the pursuit and was able to have CHP – Templeton Area assume control of the pursuit on Highway 46 East in the area of Shandon. A “Spike Strip” was deployed in the area of Highway 41 near Reef City. Lopez was later taken into custody by the CHP on I-5 north of Kettleman City.  PRPD Officer’s stayed with the pursuit until I-5 when sufficient law enforcement officers from various agencies were able to assist the CHP based on Lopez’s violent history.
