National Preparedness Month

September is National Preparedness Month, a time to focus on getting ready for emergencies and disasters.  The North San Luis Obispo County Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) and the Paso Robles City Fire Department want to educate local residents on preparing for emergencies. Learn more

The Paso Robles Chief of Fire and Emergency Services, Jonathan Stornetta, has created a video describing how the impact from the recent spike in COVID-19 is negatively impacting healthcare response and overwhelming first responders. Chief Stornetta is urging Paso Robles residents to get vaccinated.

New Public Safety Facility 

The City of Paso Robles held a groundbreaking ceremony on September 3 to celebrate the beginning of construction of a new public safety facility located at 2924 Union Road. Once complete, the facility will house Fire Station 3 and a public safety training facility. Grading of the site should start in mid-September, construction of the fire station is expected to start mid-November, with the fire station staffed prior to winter 2022. New Friends of the Library Store

The Paso Robles Friends of the Library is opening a second location on Thursday at the Gatherings Emporium at 1335 Park Street. The new Paso Robles Friends of the Library BackRoom Bookstore is the solution to the huge surfeit of books that the organization received when it held two book donation days in July. Proceeds will benefit both the Paso Robles Library and the non-profits supported by the Gatherings Emporium. Details

Rural Innovation Grant

The City of Paso Robles in partnership with the Hispanic Business Association has been selected from among 40 communities nationwide to receive fully-funded participation in the Rural Innovation Initiative for 2022 to create digital entrepreneurship and tech jobs for rural communities of color. The grant is being supplied by the Center on Rural Innovation (CORI), which was founded in 2017 to address the dramatic opportunity gap between rural and urban communities that grew out of the Great Recession. Chamber Endorses Spaceport

Paso Robles Chamber of Commerce presented a Letter of Support to Mayor Martin on behalf of the Chamber Board of Directors in support of the City’s application and proposal to the FAA for the Paso Robles Airport to become a licensed U.S. Air & Spaceport. A number of companies involved in the space technology sector have been in contact with the City regarding the Spaceport project and the City is actively researching the potential opportunities of the space tech economy. Downtown Dining Supports ECHO

The Paso Robles restaurant community is coming together to help feed people facing hunger and homelessness as part of the last summer’s Downtown City Park Dining program. The remaining funds raised from the first-of-its kind program in Paso Robles are available to reimburse restaurants to prepare meals for El Camino Homeless Organization (ECHO) Paso Robles’ program that provides daily meals for the homeless population. New Concession Program at BSP

The City of Paso Robles is rolling out a new plan for concession service at Barney Schwartz Park (2970 Union Road) including a dedicated area for mobile food service vendors and a concessionaire program designed to benefit nonprofit community groups.  This new model of concession service will provide more opportunities for local businesses as well as fundraising opportunities for nonprofit organizations and a wider variety of food choices for park goers. Recreation Classes

Recreation Services offers a variety of ongoing classes including yoga, Total Body Workout, Zumba, line dance and ballroom dance, karate and Aqua Jam.  Registration is monthly or in some case by punch pass (which can be used during the month of purchase or during any subsequent month).  Follow this link to view all of the upcoming activities mentioned above.

The Adult Craft Series has a new format! To participate in the Tree of Life Macrame class, register before September 16; once signed up, you will receive details about craft kit pickup night on Thursday, September 23. Work on your kit until Thursday, October 14, when Tree of Life projects can be shared and next month’s craft kit can be picked up. Space is limited. Registration  with a library card is required for each participant.

Foster Care Shortage in Paso Robles

SLO County is currently facing an unprecedented shortage of available resource family homes (formerly known as foster homes) to care for foster youth, 51 of whom are from Paso Robles. The two most pressing needs are for homes willing to provide short-term care as an emergency shelter home or homes willing to care for school-aged youth ages 6-18, especially teenagers. Vaccine Clinic at PRHS

A mobile vaccine clinic will be held at the Paso Robles Joint Unified School District office at 800 Niblick Road on Saturday, September 18 from 10:00AM to 1:00PM. The clinic is Open to all aged 12+ parents must be present for minors under the age of 18 to get their vaccine. Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson vaccines will be available. Creating 805 will take place on third Fridays at THE SANDBOX Paso Robles, highlighting and celebrating creative entrepreneurship on CA's Central Coast. Events are donation based and open to the public. 75 tickets available per event. Will provide time after discussions to give local creatives and entrepreneurs opportunities to connect, collaborate, and get work done.

Translation Services Available

The City of Paso Robles is using a new translation service to help callers more quickly. The service allows City staff to easily connect to a third-party translation service via a conference call. The service has been in use by the Police Department for some time and will now be available to all departments when callers access the City’s information line at 805.227.7276.
