Prompted by a legal challenge that alleges our current City Council election system violates the California Voting Rights Act of 2002, the City of Paso Robles is transitioning from the current at-large system of electing the City Council to a by-district election model. Residents are being asked to submit suggested boundary maps splitting the City into 4-5 districts, each district to be represented by a councilmember who will be elected by that district in the 2020 election and beyond. We are hoping for at least 5 draft maps to be submitted for City Council consideration. The City is inviting those interested to join us for a map-building workshop using an online drawing tool and best practices for successful boundaries.
