Every three years the State of California adopts updated Building Codes with amendments from a number of state agencies including the Division of the State Architect, Housing and Community Development, and the Office of the State Fire Marshall. According to Devon Kuhnle, Development Services Coordinator, significant changes to the state’s code include increased building energy efficiency and mandatory residential photovoltaic solar requirements. The 2019 California Building Code will be effective state-wide on January 1, 2020.
To coordinate with adoption of the new Building Code by the state, the City Council will consider updates to the City’s Building Ordinance. This is necessary to ensure that the City’s local amendments remain clear and enforceable.
